Comcast Increases Internet Speeds Again in Florida

(July 10, 2018) – Comcast Is Once Again Increasing Download Speeds for Two of Its Most Popular Internet Tiers Throughout Florida

Download speeds for the company’s Xfinity Blast! tier will jump from 100 megabits per second (Mbps) to 150 Mbps, while Extreme 150 tier speeds will increase from 150 Mbps to 250 Mbps.  About 75 percent of Comcast’s Internet customers in Florida currently subscribe to one of these two tiers and will see their download speeds upgraded for no extra charge.  Current and new customers can subscribe to these and all Xfinity Internet speed tiers on a stand-alone basis or as part of a package with other Comcast services.

“These increases help ensure our customers have the speed necessary to power the growing number of devices they are connecting to and controlling in their homes – everything from computers, smartphones, and gaming consoles, to more sophisticated home automation services and smart appliances,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Comcast’s Florida Region.  “At Comcast, we are constantly enhancing the value of our services, whether it’s by boosting Internet speeds, building out our Wi-Fi hotspot and fiber networks or giving customers more control over their in-home Wi-Fi experience with Xfinity xFi.”

Today’s announcement follows a number of improvements the company has made recently to its high-speed Internet service, including:

  • Introducing Xfinity xFi, the industry leading platform that lets customers personalize, manage, and control their home Wi-Fi experience.
  • The expansion of its national Xfinity Wi-Fi network, which now includes nearly 19 million hotspots.
  • Doubling its network capacity every 18 to 24 months.
  • Launching both 2 gigabit and 1 gigabit-per-second home internet services.

Comcast has increased internet speeds 17 times in the past 17 years. In December 2017, the company increased download speeds of its Blast!, Performance, and Performance Starter tiers in Florida.

To get the new speeds, most customers will simply need to re-start their modems, which can be done using the Xfinity xFi or Xfinity My Account apps or manually. Customers who lease modems from Comcast and need a new one can upgrade to an xFi Gateway at no additional cost.  Customers who purchased their own modems should check online to see if they need a new device here. Comcast will notify customers and provide instructions before the changes take effect.
