Comcast Surprises Southwest Florida Students with New Tablets

More than a dozen Southwest Florida middle school students were recently caught off guard, but thrilled with surprise gifts from Comcast.

The 15 sixth grade students from Fort Myers Middle Academy are participants in the Beyond School Walls program run by Big Brothers Big Sisters. Comcast’s Community Impact team sponsors the company’s involvement in the program at 12 Comcast locations across the country, including in Southwest Florida.

The Beyond School Walls program brings students facing adversity into the workplace to get a firsthand look at what it’s like to work at a company like Comcast. Comcast employee big brothers or sisters, often simply known as “bigs,” mentor their little brothers or sisters, or “littles,” and teach them about business etiquette and professionalism, plus show them how their education is critical to their future career development and success.

Through a generous donation from Comcast’s customer marketing team, iPads were distributed to multiple Comcast locations participated in the Beyond School Walls program across the country.

Sandi McDonald, Director of Human Resources and a “big” in the Beyond School Walls program couldn’t get over how excited the students were after getting the surprise gifts.

“I was literally walking around all day with a smile on my face,” McDonald said. “It’s going to be a great year!”
