Comcast Hosts Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion on LGBTQ Rights in South Florida

It was a packed house in Fort Lauderdale for the recent screening of MSNBC’s Rebellion! Stonewall at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. NBC 6 Reporter Jamie Guirola welcomed guests and served as the master of ceremonies for the special event.

The documentary examines the history of LGBTQ rights in the United States, starting with the historic Stonewall riots in 1969 in New York City. Following the screening, a panel of LGBTQ activists and subject matter experts participated in a discussion about the past, present and future outlook for LGBTQ rights in America.

Reny Diaz, Vice President of Strategic Insights and Consumer Development at Telemundo, lead the panel discussion as moderator and panel members were:

  • Jennifer Becker, director of BIGPride, a program for LGBTQ youth, with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County
  • Peter Kaldes, President and CEO of the South Florida Institute on Aging
  • Damian Pardo, Chair of 4ward Miami
  • Mark Segal, a national LGBTQ activist who participated in the Stonewall Riots and is founder and publisher of Philadelphia Gay News
