Comcast’s Highly Anticipated Network Expansion Bringing High-Speed Xfinity Internet Services to Cape Coral

First Neighborhoods Ready for Installations as Construction Continues

August 8, 2022 – The wait is over for speedy Internet service in Cape Coral as Comcast has begun installing its Xfinity services to homes in the Gator Circle neighborhood in the northeast part of the city. Once the expansion of Comcast’s state-of-the-art network is complete later this year, high-speed Xfinity internet services will be available throughout all of Cape Coral for the first time.

More neighborhoods will be launching over the next few weeks. Residents can expect a notification in their mail from Xfinity to let them know their homes are now ready to get service.

This project is a part of Comcast’s work to bridge the digital divide by bringing broadband Internet service to new and underserved areas. Previously, large parts of the area only had access to slow speeds or no internet service at all. Comcast expects to complete the network expansion and have services available to all of Cape Coral by November.

With internet speeds ranging from 50 Mbps all the way up to 3 Gbps, local customers will have access to Xfinity’s unique features that give them complete control over their in-home WiFi networks, including:

  • WiFi ControlsXfinity xFi’s digital dashboard gives customers total control over their in-home wireless networks, granting them the ability to monitor what devices are connected, set parental controls, pause WiFi access and more.
  • Advanced Cybersecurity Protection – Customers can use xFi Advanced Security to protect devices connected to their gateway from malware and other threats.
  • xFi PodsxFi Pods are WiFi extenders that can ensure WiFi coverage is available across the home, eliminating dead zones.
  • Streaming – Xfinity Internet customers can use Xfinity Flex, a 4K streaming device, to stream movies, videos and more from the Xfinity Stream app, Peacock Premium and other popular streaming services like Hulu and Netflix.

Since the beginning of the year, Comcast has already expanded its network to five other new areas in Florida – Crescent City, Lake Butler, Monticello, the Spring Lake Improvement District in Highlands County and Waldo. Since 2017, the company has invested nearly $20 billion to evolve and grow its national network, added 50,000 new route miles of fiber to it and doubled its network capacity every two and a half years to stay well ahead of demand.

In addition, as part of the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, Internet Essentials will be available in Cape Coral. Internet Essentials is Comcast’s signature digital equity initiative and the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program. It provides low-cost, in-home internet service for qualified households, the option to purchase an Internet-ready computer for less than $150 before taxes, plus multiple ways to access online digital literacy and skills training.

The Internet Essentials tier offers 50 Mbps internet service for $9.95 a month for qualified households. The new Internet Essentials Plus tier offers 100 Mbps internet service, which is twice as fast, and costs $29.95 a month.

Qualified households may be eligible to have the cost of their monthly home Internet service paid for through the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Affordability Connectivity Program (ACP). The ACP’s $30 a month credit for internet and/or cellular phone service completely covers the monthly bill for Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Plus. “After seeing and experiencing the shift to online learning and work, Internet access is a necessity in today’s increasingly digital world. You need to get online to search for employment and apply for jobs, to read critical news and information or even access telehealth applications,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Comcast in Florida. “Comcast is committed to helping bridge the digital divide and connecting more communities to the Internet and its vast resources.”

Comcast’s other services, including mobile phone and cable television, are also now available in Cape Coral. Customers who subscribe to the Xfinity Internet service will have access to Xfinity Mobile, one of the newest additions to the Xfinity network. When Xfinity Mobile customers use their phones at home or in range of a Xfinity WiFi hotspot, they do not have to use cellular data. When WiFi is not available, they will be automatically connected to the fastest, most reliable network with 5G included at no extra cost.

Comcast’s Xfinity X1 service is also now available in Cape Coral, which lets customers curate their own unique entertainment experiences. They can enjoy live television, DVR and On Demand content and streaming apps all in one place and quickly find what they want to watch using X1 Voice Remote.

Cape Coral residents interested in Xfinity services should call 1-888-893-0734 for more information.
