Comcast Rolling Out Multi-Gig Speed Internet Service Powered by Advanced Network Technology to Panama City Beach

Panama City Beach Is Among First Markets in the Country Where Comcast is Deploying New Ultra-Fast Internet Service with Up to 10 Times Faster Upload Speeds

September 7, 2022 – Residential Xfinity Internet and Comcast Business customers in Panama City Beach are now among the first in the country to be able to experience the newest and fastest multi-gig speed Internet services from Comcast.  Panama City Beach is also the first community in Florida where Comcast is now delivering download speeds of 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) over existing connections in homes and businesses.

In addition, Comcast is boosting upload speeds for Xfinity Internet customers in Panama City Beach who subscribe to its xFi Complete service and Comcast Business customers. Download speeds power downstream online activities, including streaming video, whereas upload speeds support upstream functions like video conferencing. Downstream activities are much more prevalent, with Comcast network data showing downstream activities are 14 times higher than upstream activities.

“Technology is constantly evolving and we know Internet usage is only going to increase as consumers use more connected devices and handle more of their personal and professional lives online. That is why we are always looking not just at the capabilities of our network today, but how we can meet the needs of our customers tomorrow and far in to the future,” said Javier Garcia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Comcast in Florida. “Following the devastation to the Florida Panhandle from Hurricane Michael in 2018, we rebuilt our entire local network from the ground up. We are committed to this region and are proud of our continued significant investment to bring the latest technology to Panama City today to meet the needs of our customers tomorrow.”

“When we log on to the Internet, we are focused on the task at hand, not thinking about the advanced technology or network infrastructure that makes it possible for us to get online,” said Panama City Beach Mayor Mark Sheldon. “And we don’t have to thanks to the foresight and continued investment from innovative companies like Comcast. We are grateful for Comcast’s commitment to ensuring Panama City Beach is prepared for the future.”

The new speeds are available now to Xfinity and Comcast Business customers in parts of Panama City Beach, and will be rolled out to the rest of the market in the coming months.  Comcast plans to offer the new speeds to its markets across the country now through 2025. Visit Xfinity or Comcast Business for more information.

These speed increases are part of Comcast’s ongoing work to evolve its entire network to 10G. 10G is a next-generation technology platform supported by a global collaboration of companies in the Internet industry focused on building networks that stay ahead of consumer demand for connectivity. In addition to enabling multi-gig symmetrical connections, 10G efforts will provide even greater network reliability, lower latency, faster troubleshooting, and increased energy efficiency.
