Comcast Partnered with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County to Pack More than 500 Backpacks
Comcast recently partnered with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County to donate 545 backpacks filled with school supplies and important information on broadband access to students in need.
Comcast employees and their families met at Red Apple Supplies in Riviera Beach before the new school year began in Palm Beach County to stuff the backpacks. Supplies included pencils, crayons, markers, notebooks, glue sticks and more.
Employees also included information about how qualified students and their families can get connected to the Internet at home this school year through Comcast’s Internet Essentials program, and how to find out if they are eligible for the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to help cover the cost of monthly internet and/or mobile phone services.
The volunteer event was organized through Team UP, Comcast’s employee engagement initiative.
The following week, the backpacks were given to students at Forest Park Elementary School in Boynton Beach. This was the first time the school received backpack donations and there was enough for every student at the school to receive one before classes began.
“Being able to see the joyful reactions of the Forest Park Elementary School staff when we dropped off the backpacks is a testament to Comcast’s commitment to the communities we serve,” said Rachael Bonlarron, Director of Government Affairs for Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast. “Providing every student in that school with the supplies they need for the school year, plus important information about affordable home Internet through Internet Essentials and the ACP, is just the beginning. We are dedicated to giving back and helping make sure students have what they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
To help more students in Palm Beach County receive the supplies they need to make this school year a success, you can donate a backpack by clicking here, or shop the Education Foundation’s Amazon Wishlist.
