Celebrating Women’s History Month in Florida at Comcast

Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of women throughout history. At Comcast, we acknowledge the vital role women have played in shaping our society and the telecommunications industry. From Ada Lovelace, celebrated as the first computer programmer to Radia Perlman, whose invention helped stabilized information traffic on the Internet, we celebrate trailblazers who have paved the way for future generations. Join us as we highlight the stories of inspiring women and their impact on our company and the world.
Comcast is home to many Employee Resource Groups (ERG), including the Women’s Network, which are employee-led groups that bring colleagues together to host networking events, community service activities and educational offerings across our footprint.
To celebrate Women’s History Month, Women’s Network members share more about the organization and their careers. Alyssa Youngs is a marketing specialist who has been with Comcast for over six years. She is also a co-lead of the Women’s Network ERG for Comcast’s Florida region. We sat down with Alyssa to talk about her career and the Women’s Network.

Tell us a little about yourself
In 2018, I made the big move from a small town in upstate New York to Florida and joined Comcast. My first role was on the dispatch team where I quickly learned the ropes and discovered my passion for the company. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to say I’m part of the Florida region’s marketing team as an event planner. I took full advantage of Comcast’s tuition reimbursement program, earning my bachelor’s degree in marketing management through the University of Arizona online. Now, I get to combine my passion for events with my marketing background to create amazing experiences for our community!
A little bit about me – coming from New York to Florida I still have stars in my eyes. When I’m not working, you can find me and my mini poodle, Winston, living our best beach bum lives. We love soaking up the sun, traveling to new places, and cheering on our favorite sports teams (GO BILLS)!
When did you join the Women’s Network and what drew you to the organization?
I joined the Women’s Network in 2020, and honestly, it’s been one of the best choices I’ve ever made! I kept hearing how it connects you to a community of inspiring women and exciting, fun events – and they were absolutely right. It’s been an incredible journey of personal growth, building meaningful relationships, and having so much fun along the way. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to be the Women’s Network Co-Lead, working alongside one of my best friends, Marguerite.
What is the best part about being part of the Women’s Network?
The best part about being part of the Women’s Network is the incredible sense of community and support. It’s a space where you can build meaningful connections with inspiring women, share experiences, and grow both personally and professionally. The events are not only fun and engaging but also empower us to learn from each other, uplift one another, and create lasting friendships. It’s truly a network where women are dedicated to helping each other succeed.
Can you tell us about a colleague who inspire you?
One colleague who has truly inspired me is my first leader at Comcast, Melissa. She is the kind of leader who knows how to balance support and empowerment, always leading by example. Her dedication, strong work ethic, and ability to bring out the best in everyone around her are qualities I truly admire. She leads with empathy, takes the time to listen, and always guides her team toward success, while creating a positive, inclusive work environment. Melissa’s passion for what she does motivates me every day, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from her.
Tell us about an impactful event held by the Women’s Network
One local organization that is especially near and dear to my heart is the domestic violence shelter in our Florida community. Through my involvement with the Women’s Network, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in events supporting this cause, and it has been incredibly meaningful. The work the shelter does to provide safety, support, and resources to survivors is truly impactful, and being able to contribute in any way has been a highlight for me. It’s an honor to be part of a network that actively supports such important organizations, making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
What advice to you have for women who are starting their careers?
My advice for women starting their careers is to embrace every opportunity to learn and never underestimate your own potential. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek guidance, and take on challenges – they’re all stepping stones to growth. Build a support network of mentors and peers who uplift and encourage you, because having a strong community around you can make all the difference. And most importantly, believe in yourself. Confidence comes with experience, and while you may face setbacks or doubts, remember that your unique perspective and talents are valuable. Keep pushing forward, stay curious, and always advocate for your own growth and success!
