Florida Volunteers Brings Smiles to Back-to-School Season

As the summer ends, getting ready for a successful school year is top of mind for most parents. Together with our local community partners, Comcast and Xfinity teams were on site at multiple events throughout Florida supporting families preparing to return to school. Comcast’s Team UP employee volunteers helped with materials for parents and students and Xfinity’s team of experts were available to answer questions and connect families to fast, reliable, high-speed Internet.
At one event in Deerfield Beach, Shawn Johnson, Finance Director, helped distribute brand new shoes to local families at no cost. The event was led by HandsOn Broward, whose mission is to empower people to make a difference for causes they care about. From kindergarteners to high schoolers, more than 600 kids went home with some fresh kicks.
“It is always a pleasure to help and be of service in any way possible.”
Shawn Johnson, Comcast Finance Director
“It is always a pleasure to help and be of service in any way possible,” Johnson said. “I spoke with one woman who was there as the sole caregiver of her four grandchildren. She managed to stop by on her lunch break. She told me how the program relieved some back-to-school stress. I knew exactly how she felt, from my own experiences. With the help of the volunteers, the distribution was moving with precision and efficiency which allowed the woman to get back to work and make her grandchildren happy with their new shoes.”
Johnson also helped local mom Sharisse Brantley and her young children Nevaeh, Serenity and Azriel. The students were thrilled to have brand new shoes and Johnson helped make sure they had exactly the right sizes they needed. The Brantleys went on their way after shouting a big “Thank you!” to Johnson.

At another event in Lake Worth, a group of Comcast volunteers joined Salvation Army at their Back-to-School Community Party. They helped families kick off the school year with fun and food. Children got active playing yard games and riding their bikes and scooters.
Comcast volunteers made waves across Florida from packing backpacks for students in Palm Beach County to energizing communities in Inverness and Tallahassee by educating families about how Xfinity’s products are connecting students. Their efforts helped set the stage for a successful and exciting school year for countless families.
Budget-Friendly Internet at Home
While school supplies are essential for a brand new school year, it’s important to also make sure your Internet connection delivers the speed, security and reliability needed to power your upcoming school year.
Academic success depends on having the right resources year-round, starting with a reliable Internet connection at home. With Internet Essentials from Xfinity, qualifying families can get low-cost Internet at home starting at just $14.95 per month.
If you find that your home needs faster speeds, check out Xfinity’s new national everyday pricing packages with the Xfinity WiFi Gateway and unlimited data included starting at 300 Mbps at $55 per month with the option to opt-in to a five year price guarantee.
Free WiFi and Digital Skills at Comcast’s Lift Zones
In addition to helping families connect to low-cost Internet, Comcast also works with local governments, civic leaders, educators, and community nonprofit organizations to operate Lift Zones, which are spaces located in community centers that provide free Internet access and other digital services. Lift Zones often connect people to Digital Navigators, who are tech experts that help people with getting online, using devices, and acquiring digital skills. From online learning to digital content creation, Comcast’s Lift Zones help connect communities to a future of unlimited possibilities.
