As part of its commitment to advancing digital equity, Comcast recently surprised the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida with 25 laptops to further its mission of improving adult literacy in the area.
The Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida offers free digital literacy courses to individuals working towards their GEDs, seeking new jobs, and generally wanting to improve their reading ability. The laptops will be used to support parents of schoolchildren who are enrolled in the digital literacy program, which focuses on improving computer skills and how to use the school district’s online portal.
Comcast is dedicated to bridging the digital divide and creating a future of unlimited possibilities. In 2011, it launched its signature digital equity program, Internet Essentials, which has connected more than 10 million people from low-income households to high-speed broadband service.
In 2022, Comcast reaffirmed its commitment to digital equity by pledging $1 billion over the next 10 years to the cause through its Project UP initiative. This pledge includes not only connecting people to the Internet, but also promoting digital literacy and overall access to technology.
