If you take a stroll down Main Street in Dothan, you may just stumble into the sweetest dessert shop in town. Jolando Butler used to spend his days as an Alabama teacher. He’s now a full-time baker, whipping up mouth-watering brownies, homemade cakes, and delectable pies. With a little bit of faith and whole lot of flour, his baking hobby grew into a thriving small business called Desserts by Jolando. The 6-year-old bakery sells freshly made desserts every day until they run out, so customers make sure they’re among the first patrons in the door.
“It happened spontaneously. I was just looking for a space to bake for fun, but it grew into something much bigger,” said Butler. “Here we are almost six years later with a great client base and loving what we do.”
Butler credits part of his success to reliable, high-speed Internet powered by Comcast Business. Butler said connectivity is critical because he loves interacting with his clients through social media. He’ll share his latest creations, new specials and even hours for the week with his followers.
“Reliable, high-speed Internet is essential because without it, I’m not able to process payments, share promotional posts or communicate with my customers,” said Butler. “That, plus great customer service from my provider, is a necessity for my business.”
While Butler’s bakery is in the heart of Dothan, he said he’s happy to hear that east of the city, thousands of homes and businesses in the areas of Ashford, Cottonwood, Cowarts, Kinsey and Webb now have access to Comcast’s new $4.5 million fiber-rich network. The next-generation network gives Houston County access to reliable and fast Internet speeds that outperform competitors — up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps) and business owners up to 100 Gbps.
Comcast’s network is powered by fiber and is the result of years of investment and innovation that continues to get smarter, faster and more reliable. Deonte Gatlin and Daniel Griggs are just some of the amazing Comcast team members working to connect business and residential customers. Gatlin is an Installation & Service Supervisor. Griggs is an Advanced Services Technician. They both proudly serve the people of Houston County, making sure customers have a seamless experience.
“It’s awesome that we’re able to bring our full Xfinity experience to the customers here in Dothan and beyond,” said Gatlin. “Customers who’ve had our TV services are now able to enjoy our full X1 and high-speed Internet experience, and business customers who may have our services at home are now able to bring it to their businesses too.”
“In these rural areas, many customers have access to Internet, but when they sign up with Xfinity or Comcast Business they are just amazed by how much faster it is,” said Griggs. “Customers in Houston County are really loving the TV and Internet they’re now able to get.”
Last month, Xfinity and Comcast Business worked with Butler to offer free cake slices to the community and introduce Southeastern Alabamians to Comcast services.
“By partnering with the community and small businesses like mine, Comcast is helping us grow,” said Butler.
“Houston County is very thankful for Comcast’s increased investment in our community,” said Chairman of the Houston County Commission Brandon Shoupe. “Their continued commitment to provide fast, reliable broadband to our citizens brings us closer to ensuring everyone in Houston County has this increasingly necessary service.”
