Operation Underground Launches in West Palm Beach, South and Southwest Florida
Here is everything you need to know about this improvement project and how it will impact you.
Did you know the fiber optic lines which power the Internet can be aerial or underground? With aerial, you can see the lines attached to power poles in your neighborhood. With underground, the lines are buried beneath the surface for added network protection and stability.
We’re happy to announce Comcast is starting project “Operation Underground” in parts of West Palm Beach, South and Southwest Florida.
Operation Underground will make improvements to Comcast’s current infrastructure, which will in turn minimize the risk of future weather-related outages. This means a more reliable Internet experience for you and your family. Over the last few years, there’s been growing interest in moving utility and telecommunications lines underground in the Sunshine State.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) launched Storm Secure Underground Program to harden the electric grid in parts of the state. As a result of FPL’s efforts and feedback from the community, Comcast plans to move some of our fiber lines underground, which might include the ones connecting your home.
This is good news. After completion, you’ll have less obstructive lines in your community. However, there will be some construction in your area, and we need your partnership in this process.

Operation Underground will impact everyone in the selected communities regardless of if you’re a Comcast Business or Xfinity customer. To carry out this project, we welcome your cooperation.
Our crews will need access to your property’s easement which may be in your front or backyard. They will notify you in advance before accessing the easement.
We’re committed to making this is a positive experience for residents and businesses.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- Will anyone need to enter my home? No. Construction work will occur outside and may include replacing the line connecting your business or home.
- Will Comcast be installing equipment on my property? When new equipment is necessary, it will be installed in the designated utility easement.
- How will this change my services? Our project is designed to enhance the reliability and stability of our network by transitioning infrastructure underground. This strategic move will bolster our network’s resilience during adverse weather conditions, reducing the likelihood of outages in these conditions. This improvement to the physical network will not change any of the services you currently subscribe to with Xfinity or Comcast Business.
