Tech in a bucket works on damaged lines

Saturday, May 18, 2024

A second set of severe storms hit Tallahassee and the Florida Panhandle last night, following a system that hit the area on Friday, May 10, which spawned three tornadoes, produced wind gusts over 100 miles per hour, broke 400+ power poles and severely damaged lines and equipment.

Comcast monitors weather conditions continuously and began prepping even prior to the May 10 storm. As a result, after the storm hit, we immediately activated our emergency response teams and started to assess the damage and begin repairs. Technicians from across the state joined our local techs to form a team of more than 200, who were ready to start repairs once hard-hit areas were declared safe to enter, and after damaged electrical wires, broken poles and downed trees were cleared. Because most of our service outages were the result of power outages, we deployed fuel-based generators to help power our network in areas where commercial power had not yet been restored to offer a temporary connectivity solution for the homes and businesses we serve.

Given the extent of the damage from the first system and the second storm system last night, our techs are continuing to work street to street and door to door to get Tallahassee connected. As of today, we’ve restored service to more than 90% of our area customers, and we’re working tirelessly to restore service to the rest as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we want to thank you for your patience, kindness, and understanding as our teams continue to make their way across Tallahassee and the Panhandle to do their work.

We urge our customers to please stay away from any downed lines and heed official safety warnings, as these downed lines may be extremely dangerous.  To report a downed line, you can chat with an Xfinity Assistant through the Xfinity App or the Xfinity website
