As Team USA prepares to compete on the world’s biggest stage during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Comcast is raising the American flag in communities nationwide through a unique initiative known as Operation Old Glory. This initiative, led by Comcast’s Veterans Network (VetNet) employee resource group, is now making waves in Florida with the help of U.S. Olympian Grant Holloway and two of our dedicated Comcast Flag Ambassadors, Candice Mahoney and Luis Blanco.
Grant Holloway, a five-time world champion and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 silver medalist in the 110m hurdles, recently joined Comcast Flag Ambassadors in Florida to replace a weathered flag at the golf course where his foundation hosts its annual charity event. For Holloway, whose father served twenty years in the U.S. Navy, the American flag holds deep personal significance.
“As someone who grew up in a military family, the values of discipline and dedication were instilled in me from a very young age. The American flag, for me, is not just a symbol of our country—it’s a tribute to the sacrifices my father and countless others have made,” Holloway said. “Knowing that Comcast NBCUniversal supports the military community through initiatives like Operation Old Glory makes me proud to be part of this campaign. It’s about lifting each other up and honoring our roots.”
Joining Holloway in this mission were Comcast Human Resources Manager and VetNet Co-Lead Candice Mahoney and Sr. Residential Technician and U.S. Army National Guard Soldier Luis Blanco.
Candice Mahoney is a former military spouse and the mother of a service member. When asked about her involvement in Comcast’s Operation Old Glory initiative, she said, “Being in this program allows me to honor my family’s military heritage and give back to the community. It’s a privilege to ensure that our flag, a symbol of freedom and unity, is treated with the respect it deserves.”
Similarly, Luis Blanco brings a profound sense of service to the initiative. “Serving in the National Guard has taught me the importance of community and service. Through Operation Old Glory, I can continue that service in a meaningful way, by honoring the flag that represents our nation’s values and the sacrifices made by so many,” he said.
Since launching Operation Old Glory in 2017, Comcast’s Flag Ambassadors have replaced thousands of worn or damaged American flags in our service areas across the country, free of charge. With the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, they are redoubling their efforts, reaching out to more communities in Florida and beyond.
At Comcast, we believe in connecting with the military community by creating an inclusive workplace for our military teammates and special experiences for military customers. We are proud to support military-community organizations, prioritize military hiring, and empower veteran-owned small businesses. We also offer exclusive benefits for veterans, service members, and military families.
