With TPC Sawgrass’ perfectly manicured grass nearby, the military community recently gathered at the world-famous course for a special tribute. THE PLAYERS chairman Tyler Oldenburg welcomed some of our nation’s heroes, the nonprofit Five STAR Veterans and Comcast leaders for THE PLAYERS’ “Charity of the Day” presentation. Comcast’s Vice President of Military & Veteran Affairs Mona Dexter joined Comcast Florida’s Jeff Buzzelli and Michelle Oyola McGovern to announce a $25,000 contribution to the Five STAR Veterans Center from Comcast Business.

The organization’s chairman Michael Hightower and Chief Administrative Officer Suzie Loving accepted the generous gift and thanked the technology leader for its ongoing commitment to the military community.

“Comcast, you have been there for us all the time. On behalf of the board, I want to say thank you!” Hightower said. “We get to enjoy our lives because of the brave men and women that step up to serve and keep us protected, but a number of them return home with challenges. It’s the generosity, love and humanity from moments like this that show these veterans how grateful we are for their service. Your respect and admiration for what they do… that will help them come back and reintegrate into society”

The Five STAR Veterans Center provides shelter to at-risk veterans in Greater Jacksonville and is one of Comcast’s long-time partners. The donation will help the center’s residents have access to the technology needed to learn digital skills, pursue educational opportunities and search for employment. Their ultimate goal is to ensure they can transition from the facility to living independently in today’s digital world.

Michelle Oyola McGovern leads Comcast’s community investments in the Florida Region. She thanked the Five STAR Veterans team for their passion and work in the Greater Jacksonville area.
