Comcast Celebrates Florida Favorites with Connection and Community

Throughout Small Business Month, Comcast Business hit the road across the Sunshine State to celebrate the entrepreneurs who power Florida’s local economies. These inspiring community members bring creativity, energy, and uniqueness to their neighborhoods — and Comcast Business made sure they felt the love all May long.

From Sanibel to Clermont, Greater Jacksonville to Inverness, and finally Fort Myers Beach, Comcast Business invited Floridians to join in celebrating these local treasures with free bites, fun times and good vibes.

The first stop was The Shack on Sanibel Island. Joined by Sanibel Mayor Mike Miller and Executive Director of FISH of SANCAP Maria Espinoza, the Comcast Business team shared free “Shackit”s with 100 islanders. Trust us, it’s as good as it looks.

Next up: Clermont, where Comcast Business partnered with Yummi’s Frozen Yogurt to dole out complimentary froyo. While enjoying delicious treats, the community was also in for a sweet surprise!

Comcast Business took a moment to give back with a monetary and supplies donation to the Education Foundation Lake County. The foundation’s mission is to serve as the connection between their community and public education, evaluating needs and securing resources to enhance the quality of education in the area.

In Greater Jacksonville, the team gathered at Dreamette, the area’s oldest ice cream chain. Alongside free treats, Comcast Business also gave out some new technology to a worthy organization.

BEAM, the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry, is a community based organization serving low income residents in Jacksonville’s beaches communities. They envision a future in which no local goes hungry or is haunted by the fear of eviction. Comcast Business donated 10 laptops to the organization to help them connect those in need to greater education and employment opportunities online.

An impromptu stop in Inverness followed, where Comcast recently announced an expansion of its ultra-fast network. Partnering with Angelo’s Pizzeria, the Comcast Business team served up hot slices and shared details about the new service expansion in Inverness Highlands North.

The tour wrapped up with a grand finale at Nervous Nellie’s in Fort Myers Beach, where Comcast Business hosted a thank-you celebration with delicious drinks and food for local partners.

During the event, Comcast Florida’s leader Jeff Buzzelli presented Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida with 10 laptops to support their Digital Navigator program, which helps individuals build essential digital skills for employment and everyday life. Angela Hemstreet with Goodwill said after their participants complete certain training, they’re presented with a laptop to use at home.

“We’re really thankful to Comcast,” Hemstreet said. “They’ve been a partner to us and continue to be. We so appreciate their support.”

Buzzelli also spoke about Comcast’s longstanding commitment to the area’s barrier islands including the communities of Captiva, Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel.

“This community is incredibly resilient. I’m amazed at how things have progressed,” Buzzelli said. “Comcast has a lot of folks who live in Southwest Florida. We were part of that recovery in getting our network back up quickly after the hurricane last year and of course, after Ian. Part of our DNA as a company is giving back and being part of the community.”
