Residents in a North Jacksonville neighborhood still working to recover since being hit by Hurricane Irma two years ago got some additional support thanks to a local partnership between Comcast, City Year Jacksonville, Feeding Northeast Florida and Yellow House for the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day on Saturday, May 4. Comcast Cares Day marks the culmination of the spirit of volunteerism that Comcast employees bring to life in their communities all year long.
The event took place in the Ken Knight Drive neighborhood, which is off of Moncrief Road. Local Comcast employees, their friends and families and community volunteers worked on projects to support the ongoing needs of the residents including distributing food donations with Feeding Northeast Florida, distributing books, revitalizing the community center building and painting a mural.
For the sixth year, Comcast employees in Jacksonville were joined by volunteers from the local affiliate of City Year, a national partner of Comcast Cares Day. Locally, this project is a unique extension of the ongoing partnership between Comcast and City Year Jacksonville and their support for this community. Comcast sponsors the City Year Jacksonville team that serves at nearby Jean Ribault Middle School, which is less than two miles away from the Ken Knight neighborhood.
In addition, City Year Jacksonville, Feeding Northwest Florida and Yellow House will receive Comcast Foundation grants on behalf of everyone who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $25 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
