Southwest Florida Network Restoration Timeline

As Comcast continues restoration efforts following Hurricane Ian, services are back up for more customers throughout the Eastern, Northeastern and Central parts of Sanibel Island. 

Restoration crews are deployed all over the Island, continuing to work on the network that was so heavily damaged by Hurricane Ian that it must be entirely rebuilt to fully restore Xfinity services to homes and businesses on Sanibel Island. 

The entire network rebuild will be completed ahead of schedule and most of the Island will have customers restored by November 22, weeks ahead of the original date of December 16. 

Comcast can also now provide a more detailed restoration timeline for specific locations and areas on Sanibel Island. In areas that are listed as predominantly restored, our network is operational, and services have been restored for approximately 90 percent of customers. 

Our restoration timelines are based on a number of factors, including the remaining work Comcast crews need to complete in a neighborhood or on a specific street, the ability of our crews to gain access to those locations, and whether debris will prevent crews from performing the construction and connection work needed to restore connectivity to homes there. Along the coastline, some of the work needed to complete our network may be impacted by access issues or additional damage that our crews must work around.  

Sanibel Island Updated Restoration Timelines 

Northeast Sanibel: Woodrings Point to Periwinkle Way; and Causeway Boulevard to Gumbo Limbo/Peaceful Drive 

  • Some customers are already restored 
  • Services will be predominantly restored November 19 

Central Sanibel:  Lindgren Boulevard to Sanibel Recreation Center and Seagate 

  • Some customers are already restored 
  • Services will be predominantly restored November 20 
  • Full restoration of services along the southern coastline in this area will be completed by December 5 

West Sanibel:  Blind Pass Beach and The Castaways to Sanibel Recreation Center and Gulf Pines 

  • Services will be predominantly restored November 20 
  • Full restoration of services near Castaway Beach will be completed December 4
     

East Sanibel – Point Ybel and the Sanibel City Pier to Causeway Boulevard 

  • Some customers are already restored
  • Services will be predominantly restored November 22 
  • Full restoration of services along East Gulf Drive will be completed December 5 

 Xfinity WiFi Van: A Xfinity WiFi van is currently stationed at Sanibel (Periwinkle Way – east of Tarpon Bay Blvd. and across from Billy’s Bike Shop/Alecks Alley).

Our response teams have made significant progress in restoring connectivity to our network throughout Ft. Myers Beach. Hurricane Ian’s massive storm surge and 150 mph winds severely damaged our network infrastructure, including our lines and equipment, which in many instances, were beyond repair. The entire network in this area is in the process of being rebuilt in order to restore Xfinity services to homes and businesses.

Comcast is now able to provide a more detailed restoration timeline for specific areas in Ft. Myers Beach. Our crews have been working neighborhood-by-neighborhood, and wherever possible we are going home-by-home to get customers reconnected to their Xfinity services. For an area to be listed as predominantly restored, it means that our network is operational and approximately 90 percent of customers have services restored.

The timelines below for Ft. Myers Beach are based on a few factors including the remaining work Comcast crews need to complete in a neighborhood or on a specific street, the ability for our crews to gain access to that location, and whether debris will prevent crews from performing the construction and connection work needed to restore connectivity to homes at that location. Hurricane Ian was a Category 4 hurricane that left Southwest Florida with much devastation and destruction, and we are here to get your services connected and we will not stop until the work is done.

Ft. Myers Beach Updated Restoration Timelines

West Ft. Myers Beach — Times Square to Bowditch Point

  • On schedule for services to be predominantly restored on or before original date listed – Nov. 15

Central Ft. Myers Beach: Times Square to the Red Coconut RV Park

  • On schedule for services to be predominantly restored on or before original date listed – Nov. 15

Black Island

  • On schedule for services to be predominantly restored on or before original date listed – Nov. 15

East Ft. Myers Beach: South of Red Coconut RV Park to Lover’s Key

As a result of the inability to access certain roads and neighborhoods due to Ian-related damage, including the amount of debris impeding construction work on our network – we have updated the timeline for restoring services to these portions of East Ft. Myers Beach.

  • Estero Boulevard to Bay Beach Lane services will be predominantly restored November 23
  • Bay Beach Lane to Dolphin Pointe services will be predominantly restored November 23
  • Madera Road to Carlos Point services will be predominantly restored December 8

Our response team of more than 1,700 technicians, network maintenance and engineering specialists have made steady progress repairing the damages to our equipment and infrastructure from Hurricane Ian and restoring connectivity to impacted customers as quickly as possible.

Immediately after the storm, and as soon as it was safe for our crews to do so, our response team physically assessed the damage to our network and worked to establish timelines for restoring connectivity. For areas that required repair, we were able to predominantly restore services on or ahead of the scheduled date. Now all of those areas are predominantly restored, which means 90 percent or greater of our customers have services restored. It is important to note that our teams are actively working on small pocket outages that may impact an individual home, street or neighborhood in these areas still.

For the remaining areas listed below – Captiva, Fort Myers Beach, Pine Island and Sanibel – our crews are working around the clock to rebuild our network which received substantial damage from the Hurricane. Currently, we are making significant progress and we are within our connectivity rebuild and restore dates listed in Nov. or Dec. 2022.

Our work will not stop until every customer impacted by the Hurricane has their services restored.
